This Symposium will mark the shift from thinking of illegal fishing crimes as isolated crimes, to addressing them as part of a web of organised criminal activity occurring in African waters and beyond, we must bring together all stakeholders to overcome fisheries crime.”

 

Mark has an academic background in fisheries and aquatic sciences and he started his career working in the commercial fishing industry in Namibia. Since leaving the industry Mark has worked extensively across the African continent supporting and implementing various fisheries related projects. Mark’s passion is awareness and communications, which he considers critical in making a change for the better in how fisheries are managed. Mark is part of the Stop illegal Fishing Secretariat and has been a member of the SIF team since 2011.
